Dear Mr president

It is deeply saddening to hear that French President Emmanuel Macron is reportedly planning another visit to Ethiopia in the coming days.
Many Ethiopians believe there is no moral justification for embracing Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at a time when the country continues to face devastating conflict, widespread suffering, displacement, famine, and serious allegations of human rights violations.
President Macron has long been seen as a close ally of Abiy Ahmed. For victims of war and hunger, a third official visit risks being interpreted not as diplomacy, but as indifference to the pain of millions of Ethiopians.
Across Ethiopia, people continue to suffer from war, insecurity, economic hardship, and food shortages. Reports of hunger and humanitarian crisis continue to emerge from multiple regions. Yet international leaders still choose to attend ceremonies, parks, and state events in Addis Ababa while ordinary citizens struggle to survive.
The Ethiopian people deserve peace, justice, dignity, and accountability — not silence from the international community.
